The UW Significant Other Society – or SOS, for short – is an organization created for the spouses/significant others of Residents and Fellows. The group is a great way to meet new people who come from all over and are in the same position as you, while engaging in fun activities and outings.

SOS Interest Groups
To give you a taste of what we’re all about, here are some of the interest groups that meet regularly. We are always open to ideas for new groups, so reach out and let us know what ideas you have!
Book Club
Do people still read for fun anymore? We certainly do! Come and join other SOS members for a great time discussing our book of the month chosen by the group. Don’t like reading? Grab your finest pair of nerd glasses and pretend you’ve read the book! We’ve got snacks…
Craft Club
Not to be outdone by the Drinking Club, Craft Club can get pretty wild! Sometimes we knit, other times we make holiday knickknacks & cookies – but we always have fun and leave with something to show off to your Resident SO. (Got to make them jealous that they don’t have time for crafting…) Come test out your craftsmanship with our crazy caboodle of cool crafters!
Drinking Club
Prefer to keep it low key? Come join other like-minded socialites who just want to relax and grab a drink with other cool SO’s. No pressure – but if you come alone you may just leave with a best friend!
Game Night
Come alone or bring a friend (or even that Resident of yours) for a night of games, junk food, and competition! From party games to strategy games, the sky’s the limit. Have your own favorites? Let us know and we’ll work them into rotation (after a thorough committee vetting process, of course…).
Parents Group
If you’re looking to get together with other SOs who have kids or just want to chat with like-minded people about raising a family in Madison, join our Parents Group. Who knows, maybe you’ll even get a play date or two out of it!
